Parents Support Service

The Centre provides diverse and comprehensive service to hearing impaired persons and parents/ relatives/ carers of persons with disabilities. The Centre also offers casework counselling and support service for families in need, to assist them to care for their disabled children during growth and to develop their talents and to maintain a harmonious family life. Through organizing a variety of groups and activities, we build and foster a family support network, and facilitate communication and promote the spirit of self-help and mutual help.

• Parenting Talks, Workshops and Sharing Sessions

To support parents and relatives/carers in handling and solving parenting difficulties, and to facilitate their mutual support and sharings;

• Counselling Service

To offer counselling service to families in need, to support them in overcoming emotional, ideological or behavioural problems, to enhance their problem-solving skills;

• Referral Service

To refer cases to relevant governmental departments or service organizations depending on the needs of service users;

• Community Education

To let the public understand widely about hearing impaired or disabled persons; to eliminate misunderstandings and to promote the building of an inclusive society.

• Resource Lending Service

To provide free lending service of toys, books and videodiscs related to different disabilities to members, so parents could be self-taught on daily trainings for hearing impaired or disabled children.

• Publication of Membership Newsletter

To publish latest activity details and foster the communication between members.

Service Charge

Family membership costs HKD21 per year. Membership fee can be paid by cash or by cheque, please specify the Hong Kong Society for the Deaf as the payee of the cheque.

Application for Service

Valid membership is required for participation in all kinds of services organized by the Parents Resource Centre; hearing impaired members could apply for membership of the Hong Kong Society for the Deaf. You are welcome to apply for membership in person or by post. The membership duration is from 1 April each year to 31 March of the next year. Only valid members can enjoy the services continuously.

Withdrawal from Service

If members want to withdraw from the membership, the member or their families/relatives/carers can contact our offices through email, fax or by phone. However, there will be no refund of paid membership fee.
