John Tracy Center – Parenting Programme for Parents of Hearing-impaired Children

Program Overview

Originating in the United States, the "John Tracy Center" specializes in providing early childhood education and support for children aged 0 to 6 with hearing impairment and their families. It guides parents on how to seize the golden period of infant and toddler training to care for, teach, and train young children with hearing loss in daily life. Authorized by the John Tracy Center, The Hong Kong Society for the Deaf (HKSD) translated the curriculum into Chinese. The program has been implemented in Hong Kong and other Chinese-speaking regions since 1987, accompanying countless families through the crucial stages of early intervention.

Target Group

Infant Course (Ages 0 to 2) | 10 Chapters

Covering the developmental process of hearing-impaired children, communication, auditory and language training activities.

Pre-school Course (Ages 2 to 6) | 10 Chapters

Providing methods for parent-child communication, auditory and language ability training.

Certificate: A Certificate of Completion will be awarded upon finishing each course module.

Learning Modes

Core Course - Theoretical and Practical Skills Guidance

Conducted in one-on-one or small-group learning formats based on parents' circumstances and preferences, guiding parents to master theoretical knowledge and practical skills for supporting children with hearing impairment, and addressing difficulties encountered during practice. Depending on needs, sessions can also be conducted via online courses, face-to-face meetings, video calls, or telephone.

Extended Content - Thematic Seminars

Thematic seminars related to the course topics are held regularly to explore supplementary knowledge beyond the core curriculum. Learners may attend based on their needs as an extension of the course content.
