John Tracy Clinic Correspondence Course for Parents (Parents of Hearing Impaired Children)

John Tracy Clinic is located in Los Angeles, USA. It is an education centre for hearing imparied children aged under 6 and their families. 

The Correspondence Course for Parents of Hearing Impaired Children is originally written in English and Spanish and conducted in a long-distance study and tutorial format. It provides parents with instructions on how to train and care for hearing-impaired children. It comprises two modules respectively for parents of hearing-impaired infants and preschool children. The Hong Kong Society for the Deaf was invited to translate the course materials into Chinese and in 1975 the Course commenced in Hong Kong and other Chinese-speaking regions.

Study Format

Parents are required to study the course materials on their own, practise the course suggestions, and at the end submit a report, and we will offer feedback based on the needs of individual parents. After completion of a chapter, we will send the materials for the next chapter to the parents. If parents would like to raise any questions, difficulties or suggestions, they are welcome to contact us by email, fax or phone. Upon completion of the whole course, we will issue a completion certificate as recognition.

Service Areas

• Infant Course (for parents with hearing impaired children aged below 2)

This course is designed for parents with hearing impaired infants. With a total of 10 chapters, the course explains the developmental process and performance of hearing impaired children, as well as teaching parents how to communicate with the infants and train their auditory and language abilities. Besides, the course provides a variety of interesting games and activities to facilitate the learning of hearing impaired infants.

• Pre-school Course (for parents with hearing children aged 2 to 6)

This course is designed for parents with older hearing impaired children. With a total of 12 chapters, the course provides methods for parents to communicate with hearing impaired children and to establish a healthy relationship. Besides, the course provides a variety of appropriate games and activities for parents to train the auditory and language abilities of their children using real-life situations.

Hong Kong: HKD$100 (Members of Hong Kong Society for the Deaf) 
HKD$200 (Non-members)
Outside Hong Kong: USD$25 (To be paid by Draft)

Application for Service

Parents of hearing impaired children can apply by sending the completed application form to us by post or fax.

Withdrawal from Service

By written notification to our Centre.
