Counselling Service

MISSION

The Counselling Service of the Hong Kong Society for the Deaf endeavours to assist the hearing impaired to cope with different obstacles arisen in their personal developments, to deal with anxieties or assimilation problems, and to handle other difficulties.

 

AIMS

  • To consolidate and strengthen the capacities of hearing impaired persons and their families.
  • To assist hearing impaired individuals to cope with life problems properly, guiding them to play to their full potentials and fulfill due family functions.
  • To help the hearing impaired prevent personal and family issues.

 

TARGET GROUP

Any hearing impaired individuals in need of counselling service and their families

 

SERVICE FEATURES

  1. Working closely with other service units of the Society to provide one-stop service;
  2. Accommodating the communication modes of service users, such as sign language and writing etc.
  3. Offering different forms of counselling service, including face-to-face counselling, home visits, and conversations through e-mail, fax or phone.

 

 

SERVICE STRUCTURE AND CONTENT

Individual, family and group counselling;

Counselling domains: emotion management, socialization, family and marriage, education of children, finance, education, employment, housing, acclimatization and application for driving approval letter;

Referral to government departments or other organizations responsible if necessary.

 

SERVICE HOURS

Service users may visit Tseung Kwan O Multi-service Centre to meet with the social worker on duty without an appointment during the hours indicated below:

9:30 am to 1:00 pm
2:00 pm to 5:30 pm
6:00 pm to 9:30pm
(*Service stops on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays)

Counselling service outside the above hours is available by appointment via phone call, fax or e-mail.

 

HOW TO APPLY AND SERVICE CHARGE

For application, please visit, call or fax us;

Or through referrals by government departments or non-governmental organizations;

Social workers will make an appointment to meet with successful applicants to assess their needs, set the agenda and desired outcome, and arrange counselling service or referral;

Service fee: free

 

EXIT SERVICE

Service users who wish to exit counselling shall approach the social worker responsible directly.

Forced withdrawal from the service with apply in any of the following events:

  • The service user is no longer eligible for the service;
  • The behavior of the service user causes harm to other service users and/or our staff members;
  • The service we offer no longer meet the needs of the service user.
