Child Care Centre

The Centre provides a full-day kindergarten education curriculum to children aged 2 to 6 with severe to profound hearing loss. The Centre provides diversified study formats and activities for children to learn language and communication and promote balanced development. With a favourable teacher-to-pupil ratio, the total-communication approach is adopted to cultivate students' whole-person development. In order to prepare the pre-schoolers for blending into the society, the Centre has also established a counselling programme for pre-P1 students and their parents to help them adapt to their primary school life.

Service Users

Children aged 2 to 6 with severe to profound hearing loss.

Format

• Individual Learning
• Auditory Training: To train children in using their residual hearing ability to learn listening and comprehension of conversation;
• Pronunciation Training: To provide vocal, phonetic and tonal training, to imitate language, to learn speaking to communicate with others;
• Speech and Language Training: To learn verbal communication with others in daily life and social activities through diversified activities; To learn to comprehend and express language further in order to acquire more language knowledge; Based on individual needs, sign language will be used to support the training; To encourage participation of parents to improve their skills in enhancing communication skills and language development of children;
• Group Learning
• We provide classes and activities in the regular kindergarten curriculum, including Chinese, English, Mathematics and General Studies etc, in order to facilitate children’s communication skills and enhance their cognition and language expression ability. Besides, we offer comprehensive trainings in areas such as physical fitness, self-care and social and emotional management;
• Speech Therapy
• Speech therapists will support children in enhancing their pronunciation, vocal, speech and communication abilities through aural rehabilitation and speech therapy;
• Service for Parents
• We organize parents’ meetings and talks regularly to explain parenting methods. We also arranged parents’ visits to our lessons to demonstrate and provide recommendations on training methods and skills. We encourage mutual support among parents through parents’ groups and their activities. Professional social workers will also provide counselling service to assist parents in overcoming difficulties;；

• We offer full-day child care service.

Application for Service

Referrals to be made by Pediatricians, Maternal and Child Health Centre, Child Assessment Centre, medical social workers or Integrated Family Services Centre. Enrolment will then be made by the Central Referral System for Rehabilitation Services operated by the Social Welfare Department.

Withdrawal from Service

By written notice to Centre-in-charge 1 month in advance.
