1. The Centre works closing with other service units of the Hong
Kong Society for the Deaf(including special child care center,
parent resources center, audiological services, speech therapy
service, social and recreational center, sign language services
and employment services etc) to offer holistic and one-stop
service for hearing impaired persons and their families
2. Our Social Workers would make use of different communication
methods, including verbal communications and non-verbal
methods such as sign language, writing and lip-reading to cater
for the needs of hearing impaired clients.

Free of charge
● Any hearing-impaired persons can apply for making an
appointment with our social workers in person, by phone
or by fax.
● Referrals can be made by government departments or any
voluntary organizations.
● After receiving the application, our social workers would
make an appointment with the applicant within ten days,
then evaluate his(her) needs and formulate the goals of the
case, and provide counseling or referral services.
● If the applicant would like to withdraw from the service
he could apply to his social worker.
● When the goal of the case has been achieved, our social
worker would discuss with the applicant about the termination
of the case. The applicant could apply for our service again
when necessary.
Service users can approach our center and meet our social workers on duty within the services hours listed below.

In addition to counseling service, the center also organize other services projects to help the hearing impaired persons and their families to overcome the hearing impairment and strengthen the families’ functioning:
1. Caring Program for the Hearing Impaired and their Families
2. Family Life Education Program for Hearing Impaired Persons
and their Families
3. Flashing Door Bell Program
Hearing impairment may exert great pressure on both the hearing impaired and their family members. Isolation, depression, worsening family relationship may result if understanding and communication is not enough. Maladjustment and even tragedies may be caused. Therefore, a program named as "Caring Program for the Hearing Impaired" was launched. Workshops and mass programs will be organized to help the hearing impaired and their families to gain better communication and understanding as well as adjustment to hearing impairment. Moreover, workshops will be organized to enhance their knowledge about different ways to overcome communication barriers.

2. Family Life Education Program for Hearing Impaired
Hearing Impairment hinders the growth of a family, but quality family life would be a strength to support a family to overcome such an invisible challenge. Therefore, Family Life Education Program was launched to enhance the cohesion, communication skills between the hearing impaired persons and their families。


The counseling center cooperated with the China Light and Power (CLP) Volunteer Team to organize a “Flashing Door Bell Program”. Through the subsided bell installation, it is aimed to facilitate the hearing impaired persons for stronger bounding with the outside by better home facilities. Concurrently, the program helps to facilitate social integration between the hearing impaired persons and volunteers through CLP voluntary service. A Kick Off Ceremony was held on 10th October 2009 at Tseung Kwan O Multi-services Centre with over 60 volunteers and participants.。
