The Hong Kong Society for the Deaf runs two special child care centres, Sheung Tak Child Care Centre in Tseung Kwan O and Bradbury Special Child Care Centre in Kowloon. The centres provide pre-school training for hearing-impaired children from 2 to 6 and their parents. With intensive auditory and speech training, hearing-impaired children are equipped with basic skills to prepare for transition or integration to future education and integration.。
Auditory and Speech Training
The provision of auditory and speech training both individually and in groups. It aims to help hearing-impaired children make the best use of their residual hearing ability and to strength their speech abilities and communication skills.
Social and Physical Training
Social, physical and cognitive skills training those are crucial parts of our training program. Children are encouraged to practice their language and communication skills into daily experience through various activities such as outing, role-play, morning physical exercise and festive celebrations
Speech Therapy
Professional speech therapists provide speech therapy trainings and regular assessment s to every child. It aims to strength children’s abilities of speech, comprehension, expression and intonation
Guidance for Parents
Parental guidance and counseling service includes parent meeting, workshops, seminar, parent group and home visit. Parent education and Involvement are highly emphasized.
Children Assessment
Each child is assessed upon admission and periodically thereafter. Assessments include language assessment and children developmental assessment.
Daily Child Care
Child care services including the provision of meal and nursing care are provided to enable children to benefit from training programmes.
To enhance verbal communication skills of hearing-impaired or speech delay children through our professional assessment and training.
Aim
We conduct individual sessions and group trainings such as listening, speech, language, physical, cognitive, emotional and social skills development. We also provide lectures and counseling support to parents to enhance their parenting skills and build up their support network.

Features
1. We use Auditory-verbal Approach to teach the children listening and speaking. Children could acquire language through the natural environment and our designed activities.
2. Our curriculum design is based on the Hong Kong Education Bureau proposed "pre-school curriculum guidelines" content as a blueprint. Teachers will set individual teaching plans to the different learning needs of children.
3. In response to individual children's needs, children will be referred to speech therapist for further treatment.
4. We also take into account the needs of parents and care about their feeling. Parents will be referred to support services, such as Parents Resource Center, Counseling Services if necessary.
Target Service Group
Early Education and training centre:0-6 years old, hearing impaired children
Hearing and speech enhancing scheme: 0-8 years old, hearing impaired or speech delay children.
• We teach children listening and speaking skills through play.
• We demonstrate and give suggestions to parents of how to teach their children.
• A language assessment is conducted to children on a regular basis.
• A developmental assessment is conducted to children on a regular basis.
• Teachers arrange home visit to children and parents if necessary.
2. Group Training session
According to teachers’ observation and assessment, group activities were designed to children aimed at promoting children's communication skills, enhance their verbal language, social and emotional control capabilities.

Application: Referrals are made by the Central Referral System for Rehabilitation Services operated by the Social Welfare Department.
